Honda FourTrax Foreman 4x4

I recently had the opportunity to test out a new Honda FourTrax Foreman. It is one of Honda’s Premier ATVs and for good reason. Even though Honda didn’t release any new ForeTrax Foreman Models for 2010, there are still plenty of the 2009 models available for purchase at all the dealers and Honda is coming out with a brand new ForeTrax Foreman ATV for 2011. The ones currently available at dealers are awesome machines. I quickly understood when I tried out the Honda FourTrax Foreman, why they did not make any new models with something different for 2010. If something is not broken, there is no need to fix it.

The Honda ForeTrax Foreman 4x4 is known as Honda’s “Workhorse ATV.” However, I found out it plays just as hard as it works. On the test drive, we tried out a few attachments to test the strength and work capabilities of this machine, including pulling a trailer full of wood and removing some downed trees from the old logging road leading into the riding area. We had no trouble whatsoever.

Once we were done doing a bit of trail maintenance, we were ready to hit the trails wide open. I climbed on the ForeTrax Foreman and headed up to some of the more challenging trails systems available in that park system.

HondamaticTM Transmission

Switching between working around the ranch or in our case doing some trail maintenance and hitting the trails for pure fun often requires something totally different when it comes to shifting gears.

The continuously variable design of the Hondamatic Transmission allows you to do the shifting manually or choose between different power train ratios with a thumb-operated control switch. The Hondamatic Transmission makes for the smoothest exchange of any ATV Transmission I have tested. The smooth power gets the job done whether on the trail or on the farm.

Switching between two-wheel and four-wheel drive is very convenient on this model as well, due to the TraxLok®, a “shift-on-the-fly” system that allows you to switch with the touch of a button on the handlebar.

I can usually find my way around the farm quite well, but when I get off on some of the public trail systems, good trail signage is sometimes only in my dreams, so having a GPS on board makes the trip a lot less stressful. I can spend more time riding and less time stopped on the side of the trail trying to figure out where I am on some muddy map. The Honda GPScape is a built-in GPS system offered exclusively by Honda that is actually wired directly into the ATVs electrical system so it is always reliable and available. I never have to worry about remembering to grab it out of the jeep or having fresh batteries handy at the most inconvenient times. The GPScape comes with oversized buttons so it is easily operated in cold weather or while wearing gloves. I never want to leave the trailhead without it again.

I was very impressed with this machine and would encourage anyone who is looking for something to cover all the bases, to head down to your local dealer and give the ForeTrax Foreman a shot.
