The Best of Both Worlds: SuperTrapp Offers
a Perfect Balance Between Horsepower and Torque
CLEVELAND – January 11, 2005 – Whether it involves speeding
around the dirt track with a group of friends or finishing up
chores on the farm, one thing that all ATV users need is more
power. The dilemma is whether to increase power at the top-end
and increase horsepower or to increase torque at the low-end.
SuperTrapp, a Cleveland-based manufacturer of performance
exhausts, allows ATV riders to tune their exhaust to find the
setup that is right for them.
The advantage to a SuperTrapp exhaust is the tunable disc
system. The rider can add or remove the 3-inch discs to adjust
the exhaust's performance to fit their specific needs. By adding
more discs, the rider can move the power band up to increase
power on the top-end. Removing discs will increase low-end
torque while at the same time lowering sound levels.
Additionally, the tunable discs function as a U.S. Forest
Service-approved spark arrestor, making a SuperTrapp exhaust
ideal for off-road applications.
For the utility ATV crowd, SuperTrapp offers its IDSX line of
exhausts. IDSX is an ideal muffler for hunting, ranching,
farming, camping and off-roading because of its durable
stainless steel design. The muffler uses SuperTrapp's tunable
disc technology, allowing the rider to combine low-end torque
with controlled sound levels.
Tom Carlson, an engine builder at TC Racing, acknowledges the
benefits of a tunable system. "What's nice about a SuperTrapp is
that you have the option to tune for decreased volume if your
particular riding area requires it," Carlson said.
As an example, using 10 discs on the Honda 500 Rubicon results
in dBA of 93.3, low enough to meet dBA standards in nearly all
public riding areas.
Another advantage of the IDSX in utility applications is that
it uses an internal disc system, which functions better than an
external disc system in harsh off-road conditions.
For the performance racing ATV market, SuperTrapp offers the
IDS2 racing series. This lightweight aluminum exhaust features
SuperTrapp's stainless steel disc system. By adding additional
discs, the user can increase horsepower and sound levels.
"A lot of the attention that an exhaust system gets comes
from the sound that it makes when it's going around the track,"
Carlson said. "A SuperTrapp exhaust system has that impressive
sound."
Users of the IDS2 can expect a significant horsepower boost
over a stock exhaust. A dyno test of an IDS2 Racing Series
slip-on for a Yamaha Raptor revealed a 2-3 H.P. gain at the top
of the power curve and excellent mid-range power.
