When looking for a way to carry the basics for a photo shoot; digital camera,
extra lenses, batteries, film,
flash memory cards, cell phone, drinks and a few tools, one not
need to look far
from the beaten path. We found an inexpensive solution from OGIO in
their flight vest. The flight vest comes in a one size fits most,
color black, and has enough
storage pouches and zippered pockets to handle most anything you
may need to carry. The
three small pouches on the front
right-hand side of the vest are the perfect size for extra
batteries, a cell phone, and flash memory cards or rolls of 35mm
film. Continuing on the right-hand side of the vest, there is
one large zippered pocket just behind the three small pockets. This
pocket is perfect for an extra camera lens or a place to put
your shades. Just above these are
two additional zipped pockets
perfect for a wallet or other medium sized items. We used
these pockets to store our wallet and extra memory cards, plus a
note pad.
The
left-hand side of the vest consists of two pockets. The lower pocket is
the same size as the zippered pocket just behind the 3 small
pockets on the right-hand side. There is enough storage room in
this pocket for a pair of gloves, goggles or something similar in
size. The pocket above is similar in size to a gun
holster, making it ideal for longer items. The
rear of the vest
contains two pockets on
either side measuring 15" tall by 5" wide by 3" deep," and one
pouch down the center with a Velcro closure. The left-hand pocket contains a
small
tool holding pouch that can hold several wrenches and then a
larger pouch just behind these that can hold larger tools. Down
the
center of the back is a pouch ready to accept any type of
camelback hydration system.
Construction and fabric is superb. The stitch work is top
notch and will hold up to many years of use. The
zippers should
last the life of the vest too. There are two compression
straps on either side of the vest to snug up the
vest around the mid-waist, and three
compression straps on the
front to lock the vest on securely. On the back just below the neck, is a
nylon mesh
to allow air to flow through the vest from the front, which allows
body heat
to escape easily. The vest weights in at 3.44 pounds empty. The shoulders have extra padding
sewed into the material for extra comfort when the vest is
loaded down.
Black is certainly not a friendly color for a
hot summer day. However, the black color will help hide mud or
other dirty spots that one would see on any other color of vest.
In addition, the OGIO flight vest incorporates a pouch on the back
for any type of camelback hydration system. So when you
are hot, you can sip on your favorite beverage from your
hydration system. Furthermore;
you could use this same pouch for carrying water bottles
or other drinks if one does not have a camelback hydration
system.
In short, the OGIO Flight vest, at an affordable price of
$79.99, brings you the unique style and versatility
with a rugged construction that features multiple storage
pockets. It's equipped with goggle pockets, multi-functional
pockets, a magazine pocket, an internal zippered pocket, a tool
organizer panel, a cell phone pocket, and back storage areas.
We would recommend this for anyone looking for an alternative to
using a backpack for carrying those much needed items while
riding or doing infield photo shoots.
