A Look at H-Bomb Film’s Huevos 10
Many years ago, as a gutsy youngster (aka -
youth lacking wisdom), I dreamed up a daredevil
bicycle act with my brother. Back in the day, it
was nothing to take a plank of wood and to throw
some logs under it for a make-shift launching
platform. However, time soon proved that
logic and reasoning would give way to the lust
of complete weightlessness from the tiresome
feat of jumping a yard or two. Our new
thrill-seeking stunt involved saw horses and a
loading ramp which were set alongside a long
steep embankment near our house. The scene
resembled a descent and style of jump similar to
that which a ski jumper would experience, where
the slope of the hill dropped away with each
increment of horizontal travel.
White-knuckled and clinching my teeth, I hit
the platform at full speed. The velocity proved
too great of a force for the saw horse which
collapsed at mid launch. Mirroring the
moves of Vinko Bogataj - the infamous skier who
took the “Agony of Defeat” tumble week after
week on ABC’s Wide World of Sport’s intro, I
miraculously survived with only deep cinder
wounds and scrapes from an almost endless tumble
across the rocks. After finally catching my
breath, I suggested to my brother that he
shouldn’t try it. He didn’t!
In keeping with other “do not try this at
home” themes–the latest H-Bomb Films classic,
Huevos 10, is packed with high flying,
freestyle, ATV action. The riders that make
these acrobatic moves, known as the Bomb Squad,
perform them so easily that, conceivably, those
not really knowing any better may try to emulate
these stunts. For anyone considering this
option, first watch the Huevos 10 chapter
titled, “Payin’ Dues.” If you decide to
continue after watching, then knock yourself
out–literally! Maybe, “Front Flip Guy,” a
humorous segment featuring a dude trying to
perform a front-flip on his quad, should have
checked that one out, too! Although, the
only thing he injured was his pride.
For the first time, Huevos 10 was shot in all
HD and features the use of high speed
videography, delivering H-Bomb Film’s signature
imagery at an even more spectacular quality. Wes
Miller, Executive Producer of H-Bomb, says,
“We've been doing these for so long, I mainly
just try to one up our last film. I want to
always keep pushing and fine tuning our movies.”
It’s not only Wes Miller who is trying to push
the limits with his last performance. Caleb
Moore, a member of the Bomb Squad displays the
first NacFlip–back flip nac nac.
Of course, Huevos 10 has plenty of freestyle
scenes that fans of the Huevos series have come
to expect, with venues in exotic locations such
as the Mex FMX’s matador arena and Costa Rica.
However, Wes mixes it up a little bit and adds a
twist of everything affiliated with ATV
adrenaline. Here’s just some of what else you
can expect from Huevos 10. Showcasing Rocky
Cutsforth on the CanAm Renegade, be blown away
by the gravity-defying hill climbs and 100+ foot
utility quad jumps. Get a look at Digger’s
homestead, as Doug Gust and Russell Shumaker
tear it up. Visit Jackpot Ranch and watch Ben
Bettis soar from hilltop to hilltop. See race
segments from the GNCC, QTC and ATVA. Also,
witness riders launching from dune to dune at
Glamis. Experience international motocross
events with 1000’s of contestants, such as
“Anarchy in the UK” and races in Argentina.
Huevos 10 is a must have for anyone even
remotely interested in Sport ATVing. It’s
hard to imagine anyone jumping a quad 200+ feet,
without seeing it on this film. The realism is
exceptional in this 10th addition to the series.
Giving an excellent point-of-view (POV) to
aspiring racers and freestylers, there is plenty
of helmet cam footage in the bonus features.
With the quality of the imagery and the amazing
sights of the filming locations, Huevos 10 is a
winner!
As Wes Miller sums it up, “I think the future
of ATV freestyle is looking very good.
There are more new riders coming up and it
pushes all of the riders to new levels. It also
seems like there has finally been more of a
mainstream acceptance of the sport.” Think
you may be interested in becoming a member of
the Bomb Squad? Wes says they are always
looking for new riders to groom. “If anyone
wants to give it a shot, they can e-mail photos
or video clips to
john@hbombfilms.com and we will take a
look.”
Unfortunately, my brother and I performed our
stunt prior to 1997 which was when Wes Miller
started producing ATV freestyle films.
Otherwise, we may have had a chance to join the
squad!
