Kilner Impressive at Three Sisters
Round One, 2013 Norasport Open Quad British Supermoto Championship

Craig Kilner
31st March, Three Sisters, Wigan - Craig Kilner began his 2013 championship campaign with two race wins and the fastest lap time at the superb Three Sisters track in Wigan. Having retained all his sponsors for this year’s Norasport Open Quad British Supermoto Championship onboard the team SPL Racing 500cc 2 stroke twin Rotax engine quad, Craig made an impressive start to the season.

Having made some modifications which included rubber mounting his engine (despite some early technical issues through winter testing), Craig started seeing some excellent lap times just two weeks before the opening round of the championship. This year’s championship is being televised on the popular Motors TV channel, so there is no excuse for missing any of the action!

Arriving at a very cold Three Sisters circuit full of confidence, Craig immediately set the fastest lap in lap one of qualifying beating Q2 by 2.4 seconds! John Dennan took the holeshot in race one but Craig was determined to get ahead and passed to create a big lead. “I was comfortable out at the front but could see Mike Taylor had worked his way up from fifth to second and was coming up. I eased up and saved my energy for the final lap and pushed hard from there to take the win.” explained Craig after taking the first race win for 2013, eventually finishing 4.5 seconds ahead of Taylor and 25.6 seconds from Dennan in third.

With the disappointment of missing the first holeshot, Craig nailed it from the start in race two but Taylor was closer this time and the two battled for position. In lap five, the race was red flagged when Mark Beevers and Joe Hodgson collided. Craig finished in first place and decided to make a few adjustments to his engine before the final race.

Battling down the line for the holeshot in race three, Taylor just edged it with Craig keeping close for eight laps. The two had a massive lead on the other riders when without warning, the suppressor cap on Craig’s spark plug came off. This left Craig pulled up on the track, having to repair his quad just as Dennon passed with two laps left. Having rejoined the race, Craig then put in the fastest lap out of any of the Supermoto classes racing, a blistering 1.13.3 to retake second place.

Round two takes place at new circuit Rednal Raceway in Shropshire on 27th April.

Craig would also like to thank his sponsors ACT Roofing, SPL, Hunslet Roofing Supplies, Mick Gardener Racing, Goldspeed Tyres, DWT, ATV World, ZIP Wear and Norasport.
